2018 GIRLS SOCCER SEASON REVIEW
The Falcons varsity girls soccer finished the 2018 season with a record of 6-8-1. They advanced in the Sectional Tournament to the quarterfinals, falling to Fillmore, a team that would go on to the Class D1 Championship, losing to Kendall.
Special highlights this year included winning vs Lima Christian at Homecoming (6-1) and the away game vs. Lima Christian, where three pairs of siblings were able to take the field at the same time (Grace and Callie Martin, Avery and Brooke Viencek, and Melody and Eva Maus).
Gracie Groome (8th grade) lead the team in scoring, with 16 goals and six assists. Avery Viencek (junior) lead in assists, with 8, along with 4 goals of her own. Other notable offensive players include Liesl Staton (junior) with 6 goals, 3 assists, and Emily Gammil (junior) with 5 goals and 7 assists.
The defense was lead by seniors, with Grace Martin, Olivia Herford, Lydia VanLeeuwen, and Melody Maus each earning starts and working to keep the Falcons in games. Paris Blackmon (8th grade), in her first year in goal, had an amazing 140 saves out of 182 shots on goal.
First Team Private Parochial honors were given to Grace Martin (senior), Lydia VanLeeuwen (senior), Simone Blatto-Vallee (junior), and Liesl Staton (junior). In addition, Grace Martin was named to the Private Parochial Exceptional Seniors All-Star team.
Coach's Awards were given to Liesl Staton (Wolverine Award), Simone Blatto-Vallee (Iron Horse Award), and Grace Martin (Most Valuable Player).
The JV team also had one game this year. They played against Bishop Kearney, and they won. This was the first JV girls soccer victory in many years.
