The Finney Falcons boys varsity soccer team defeated the Avoca Tigers tonight, 2-0, to advance to the state tournament. Finney was the Section V Class D1 champion, while Avoca represented Class D2. Avoca was undefeated going into tonight's game. The Falcons' goals both came in the first half. Emmanuel Rubingu scored first, with Ian Lau kicking the second goal. Goalkeeper Stephen Folkerts had 11 saves on the night. With the win, Finney will advance to the state tournament, playing the Section VI Class D champions, North Collins, at a game to be hosted by Sweet Home High School in Buffalo on Friday, November 2, at 5 PM.
